Case Study IV: Dr. David McCallum
Dr. McCallum made the conscious decisions to give and receive support for a statistics class one year. During the class, which consisted of a 23-year old white female, a 26-year old African American female, a 29-year old Filipino female, a 38-year old white male, and a 44-year old white male, there where arrangements of where to meet, the structure, and any flexing or contracting as necessary based on the week to week and task to task obligations. Each member took on specific responsibilities based on their skill set of the content. At the beginning of each meeting, Dr. McCallum and his constituents checked in to see how each person was doing in the general sense which provided people the opportunity and space to share what was important to them at that moment. Once this task was complete, the rest of the time was spent working through statistics problems together, reviewing for exams, or working independently and checking in with each other as needed.
